It focuses on the builiding of an oil monopoly, the fate of local personages in the long term against a background of sharp global political collisions. using historical footage the film offers new insights in the little known activities of the Nobel family in Baku. the documentary has been awarded two medals in the film festival of Nantes (France).

Hajiyev Amir Pahlavan (pen name "Amir Pahlavan") was born in the village of Shahbuz in the Autonomous Republic of Nakhchivan in 1959. His father was a medical attendant and his mother was a housewife. He has 6 sisters and 3 brothers. He is a journalist by profession and also a writer. He knows Azerbaijani (his mother tongue) and Russian perfectly, also can speak Turkish and Persian languages.

He has graduated from Baku State University as a journalist in 1985. Since that time he has published 11 books, 7-in Azerbaijan and 4-in the USA (California), Turkey and Germany.

 The novel Nobel of Baku by Amir Pahlavan tells the story of the famous Swedish Nobel-Family and their activities in the oil industry of Baku in Azerbaijan. Ismayel, the main character of the novel, experiences his country as an independent nation when he returns after 70 years of emigration.

By observing the changing times and discovering the differences between the past and the present, the reader is also immersed in the fascinating collision-course of memories. Readers get to know stories of the beginning of oil production and of the monopoly conditions of the Baku oil industry and especially the long term fates of local people against the background of hard global political collisions.
The Turk-Azerbaijani writer and journalist Amir Pahlavan, born in 1959, teaches on History of World Culture at the Azerbaijan State Pedagogical University. His documentary film Baku Oil and Nobels was awarded two medals at the 2001 film festival in Nantes (France). Nobel of Baku is his 4th novel.
